My works reflect my passion for textiles – primarily tapestry weaving and machine embroidery.
Tapestry weaving is a challenging technique which allows me to realise my motifs as very strong and highly defined images. My machine embroidered pieces employ a more lyrical interaction with my subject. Here, I am able to develop the entire composition evenly as opposed to working from the bottom up. This technique provides for much more freedom and spontaneity creating a welcome balance in my practice.
Having spent time travelling throughout various parts of Europe and Asia, I document my responses through drawings, paintings and photographs to create a solid repertoire of images to work with.
I enjoyed the visual and sensory inspiration I encountered in New York in 2013 and through this technique my tapestries enable me to respond to and encompass the teeming urbanity of New York.
